To all of our beautiful members and supporters, what a sad week it has been. As most of you know we have lost the lives of one gorgeous woman and her three beautiful innocent babies at the hands of a man who was meant to protect them from the evil in the world..

But to be brutally honest, this week is just like last week and the week before. You see, every single week at least one woman is murdered at the hands of her partner or former partner, as a matter of fact the rate has actually risen to 3 women every 2 weeks. Domestic Violence murders are not decreasing, they are not staying the same – they are in fact rising. Here at the women and children’s shelter we deal with domestic violence every single day and to say it’s an epidemic is an understatement.

We bare witness to the broken and battered bodies, the emotionally destroyed women and children who have experienced trauma no child should every have to go through. But the sad part of the work we do is turning away “more” women then we are able to help due to lack of funds. Every single time we have to say “sorry we are full” to a woman in need we ask ourselves “will she be the next statistic?” because sadly the odds are not in her favour and our sanctuary founder Simone lives with the guilt and fear of one day losing a life that she wanted to help but couldn’t. That’s a weight no one should have to carry. This is where we are needing some ongoing help.

Running the sanctuary isn’t easy, its financially and emotionally draining and sadly we have no government funding.

We apply for grants but with 70,000 charities all fighting for the same funding, our applications aren’t always successful. We need help, we need ongoing monthly donations of as little as $10 per month (just $2.50 per week) from as many of you wonderful people as we can possibly get. In numbers, together we can all make a huge difference in saving the lives of these women who need our help more than ever before. I have come here today to ask you for your kind and ongoing support to help us build a regular donation income so that we can assist there women when they need help the most.

So that we can reduce the amount of “sorry we cant help” responses to “yes, we’ve got you” and in turn save more of the lives that we are losing every single week. You ongoing donation is 100% tax deductible and you will receive a tax invoice at tax time. We ask for just $10 a month, more if you can but we totally understand life is tight.
